Client’s brief :
Context : We had this old Cannondale CAAD4 in stock — a size that no one in our team could actually ride — so we decided to put it up for sale.
“You have carte blanche. I want it to be 1x11 with a 50T chainring. I already have my old shifters and rear derailleur, but I want the bike to look aero and aggressive. I don’t really have a fixed budget, but I definitely want an ENVE aero cockpit.”
We had a lot of fun hunting for the perfect parts to match that frame.
We decided to mount the latest SRAM Force crankset and paired it with that golf-ball-textured aero chainring from Alugear in 50T. At first, we weren’t sure if the chainring would clear the frame — since we couldn’t adjust the offset without messing up the chainline — but it turned out to fit perfectly.
Since we were looking for rim-brake wheels, we instantly thought of HUNT — one of the last brands still making them — and that’s great because their wheels are excellent, beautifully designed, and match perfectly with the frame and those tan-wall tires.
We added a very classy Thomson seatpost and the new Reform saddle — which, besides having one of the best designs around, is also a masterpiece of technology, with its adjustable gel that molds to your pelvic shape.
And of course, we didn’t forget those retro-looking stainless bottle cages from Arundel to complete the build.
